Why soy candles?

We craft all our candles with 100% pure, plant-based soy. Soy isn’t the only wax used to make candles, but it’s definitely our fave—and we’re going to tell you why.

Paraffin wax is the most commonly used. Probably because it’s the least expensive and made from petroleum oil. Next up there’s palm wax, made from natural, hydrogenated palm oils. Gel wax is also used but it’s not actually a wax at all. It’s made from mineral oil and has similar qualities to gelatin. Beeswax tops the list as the most expensive. It’s 100% natural and has a natural honey aroma.

And then there’s soy wax, made from 100% hydrogenated soybean oil. We use soy for a few reasons. First, it’s all-natural with no toxins, carcinogens or pollutants, making it less likely to trigger allergies. Next, it burns cleaner and lasts longer. Since it’s natural, soy wax doesn’t produce the soot paraffin candles are known for. And it burns 30-50% longer than a paraffin candle. It’s also 100% biodegradable (paraffin’s not) and it releases fragrances easier than other waxes. Finally, it has a lower burning point so there’s less risk of burn should any wax get spilled.

Soy wax lasts longer, burns cleaner and is safer—for your health, your home and the environment. So why soy, you ask? That’s why.
